Addiction recovery clinic pays $15.75 Million to settle Medicare fraud charges

A chain of addition recovery centers and a clinical lab will pay $15.75 million to settle allegations of Medicaid and Medicare fraud for submitting claims for urine tests that were medically unnecessary and more expensive than the actual tests performed.

PremierTx, Addixxion Rocovery doing business as SelfRefind had their patients submit to regular urine drug screening as often as every two weeks, to ensure they were not abusing controlled substances. The Government alleged that patients were then sent for additional comprehensive urine drug screening that were frequently unnecessary and often more expensive than suitable alternative tests.

Allegations also included that the companies submitted false claims that misidentified the class of drug that was tested for and received a higher financial reimbursement than necessary.
