BEEF WHISTLEBLOWER REVEALS FAILURE OF USDA SYSTEM AND DANGERS TO AMERICAN PUBLIC

John Munsell is a former meat plant owner in Montana who was forced out of business when the USDA Inspection Service (FSIS) refused to acknowledge that E. Coli tainted beef, which was discovered in his facility, actually originated from the meat packing giant ConAgra. He says that employees of FSIS were afraid ConAgra would sue them. He suggests that the FSIS hierarchy engages in a hands off involvement role as it relates to dealings with influential large meat packers. A Government Accountability Project (GAP) investigation into Munsell’s allegations resulted in a report entitled SHIELDING THE GIANT: USDA’S “DON’T LOOK DON’T KNOW POLICY FOR BEEF INSPECTION. This report raises real concerns over the USDA operations and whether Americans are ingesting dangerous beef products as a result.
