The international corporate headhunter Egon Zehnder has been accused of evading $13 million in New York state taxes in a fraud scheme according to a whistleblower lawsuit. The allegations in the suit say that the company, which has placed some of the top executives in the largest companies in the world, kept two sets of financial books to carry out the scheme. The damages sought exceed $47 million even before taking into account compounded interest on the claim.
The income related to services in New York, but, according to the suit, was shifted to the company’s offices elsewhere in the world to avoid New York state taxes. The company has denied the claims of the lawsuit,.
New York is one of the few states that allows for whistleblower cases for state tax evasion.
