Fedex says Justice Department has dismissed charges over online pharmacy deliveries

FedEx Corp. says that it has been entirely exonerated by the United States Department of Justice concerning criminal charges once filed against the company for ignoring warnings that it was shipping drugs from internet pharmacies that were not legally prescribed. The charges labelled against the company at the time included conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

FedEx argued it was protected legally as a company carrying goods for the public. It says it ships more than 10 million packages a day and cannot be held to police all of them. In 2013 United Parcel Service agreed to pay $40 million to settle an investigation concerning shipments for online pharmacies.
