FEDS: PRINCETON REVIEW SCAMMED ON TUTORING POOR KIDS IN NEW YORK

The Federal Government and New York State has sued The prestigious Princeton Review in Federal Court stating that the Review took millions of dollars in federal money to tutor underprivileged children in New York but never provided the services. The Princeton Review is a leading preparer of prep courses for standardized tests and college admission. The government has brought suit under the False Claims Act and seeks treble damages. The government says the Princeton Review submitted claims for reimbrusement in connection with a funded program to provide tutoring services to underprivileged children and as a result received millions of dollars in federal funds for services it did not provide. The United States Attorney also said that at each tutoring class the Review had students sign in and out on an attendance form. The company was required to keep a daily records as a condition of getting paid. However, many of the Princeton site managers routinely made entries on the attendance forms to make it look like there were students in class than actually attended. In one case the Review charged for tutoring 74 students on New Year’s Dat when there were no classes.
