Heart/Stroke Risk of Diabetes Drug Avandia known for years

Two major studies released this week, one from the FDA and one from the Cleveland Clinic revealing significant dangers of stroke and heart attack risks of the Type-2 Diabetes drug Avandia were not the first studies to reveal these dangers. In fact a Senate report regarding other studies released in 2007 said that the drug maker GlaxoSmithkline knew of possible heart attack risks tied to Avandia years before 2007. An early critic of Avandia was Dr. John Buse, director of the UNC Diabetes Care Center told Congress in the summer of 2007 that the drug maker responded to his questions about Avandia’s cardiovascular risks by trying to intimidate hi. He made the commends shortly after a study was published by the New England Journal of Medicine revealing that data linking Avandia to an increased risk of heart attack.
