Looking ahead: major news coming up this week

1. Dennis Hastert, former House Speaker will be arraigned in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Tuesday morning. Hastert was charged with withdrawing hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash in small increments to avoid federal reporting requirements. Hastert allegedly used the funds to try to cover up prior sexual conduct with a high school boy in his past. He has also been charged with lying to the FBI about his bank activity.

2. Social Media Week begins in Los Angeles where hundreds of industry executives and professions gather to discuss everything happening in social media. Hosted at the Bergamot Station Arts Center, the event will include discussions with Buzzfeed’s Ze Frank about what goes viral.

3. Seven Republican candidates will decend on Iowa for the first rounds in the Presidential race.The candidates are: Former neurosurgeon and conservative activist Ben Carson, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, South Carolina Sen.Lindsey Graham, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

4. G-7 Summit in Germany expected to yield discussions about controlling Russia’s latest military aggression and its threats to Europe.
