Mystery whistleblower may get massive reward in HP accounting case

HP said this week that a whistleblower that revealed improper accounting at Autonomy, the British software company it brought last year may stand to gain yo to $2.64 which would be the largest single whistleblower award in history. ΠIn a new whistleblower program of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the whistleblower does not have to reveal his name to anyone. First, the United States government has to collect its money and then the whistleblower, a senior executive of autonomy can collect upwards of 30% of what the government collects. Reuters is reporting that the FBI is investigating the HP allegations with the SEC. Due to the accounting errors, alleged to be more than mistakes, HP has taken an $8.8 billion charge.
