NEW KIND OF CYBER ATTACK USES PDF’S IN EMAILS

Security experts have identified a new threat being used in cyber attacks on computers and industries by injecting malware into networks using PDF files. These attacks have so far targeted defense, chemical and technology industries but that is expected to expand. The new finding of researchers came up this week when a targeted attack campaign was noticed in several high value industries using a Trojan program which contained PDF’s to deliver its payload. The MyAgent Trojan is generally spread through email as a zipped.exe file or PDF attachment according to FirstEye Malware intelligence Lab. They noted that the emails using PDF files were labeled “Health Insurance and Welfare Policy” Once the file was opened and the virus released, if the PDF is opened the malware can inject an additional virus called ABODE32.exe in the temp directory.
