NYC Cardiologist Admits faking diagnosis of heart problems in 80 percent of patients to bilk Medicare

A New York City Cardiologist with offices on Fifth Ave in New York and in New Jersey admits he intentionally misdiagnosed 80 percent of his patients with heart problems to collect millions in extra Medicare money. Dr. Jose Katz, 68 pleaded guilty to falsifying charts diagnosing patients with angina and other heart problems just so that he could prescribe additional tests and treatments when hundreds of patients did not need them. Prosecutors asserted that some patients were placed at risk of death in some of these procedures. Katz crimes took place between 2004-2012. Accordingly to his resume, the Dr. is affiliated with New York Presbytarian Hospital. Katz’ clinicals were called Cardio-Med Services in Union City, Paterson and West New York. He also ran clinics called Comprehensive Healthcare in Manhattan and queens. He faces up to ten years on the conspiracy to commit health care fraud charges and he also admitted to creating no-show jobs in his office in order to obtain more than $250,000 in Social Security Benefits.
