PLAYSTATION NETWORK HACK LARGEST IN HISTORY WITH 77 MILLION USER ACCOUNTS STOLEN. HOW?

The names, birth dates and possibly credit card numbers of 77 million people who play online videogames on Sony’s Playstation console have been stolen by hackers. The is the single largest data breach in history and Sony has taken its gaming network offline now for six days, to the consternation of its customers who are angry big time. The players use this special network to play the games against each other. Many who are hooked are going cold turkey. They can also watch movies and chat online but now Sony is warning users that intruders have penetrated the system. The customers who have paid monthly fees have been told to watch their credit card statement for unauthorized charges. Reports have been published that Sony has been in a battle with a group of hackers resulting from its refusal to allow installation of other operating systems on its Playstation machines. Others have said that the security for the system was lax in that Sony may have ignored industry accepted procedures for security. A class action is anticipated.
