U.S. Recovered $3 Billion in Financial Fraud Cases Last Year

The United States recovered over $3 billion in settlements or judgments in cases concerning fraud on the government in the fiscal year ending September 30, an increase of 25% over last yer. The largest recoveries were in healthcare and in the pharmaceutical industry. Most of the cases were brought to the government by whistleblowers, according to the Justice Department. The law allows the whistleblowers to share in the recovery. The increase in recoveries is expected to increase at about the same rate over the next year.
