WHISTLEBLOWER REVEALS BANKS AND MORTGAGE COMPANIES RIPPED OFF VETS AND TAXPAYERS

A major whistleblower lawsuit, just now unsealed in federal court reveals that the nation’s largest banks and mortgage companies cheated military veterans and taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars by hiding illegal fees in veterans’ home loan refinancing. The case relates to refinancing loans by retired or active duty vets in homes they own and the programs are to give vets an opportunity to lower their interest rates or shorten the terms of existing home mortgages. The suit says that the banks fraudulently and purposely collected hundreds of millions of dollars in hidden fees from vets and got hundreds of millions in loan guaratees they otherwise would not have received. The banks and mortgage companies named include Wells Fargo, Bank of America, J.P. Morgan Chase, CitiMortgage, Suntrust Mortgage, Wasjington Mutual Bank, Irwin Mortgage, New Freedom Mortgage and GMAC Mortgage. The case was brought under the False Claims Act which allows a whistleblower to collect and percentage of moneys recovered by the government.
