BRITISH NEWSPAPER SAYS EUROPEAN COMMISSION PLANS CRACKS DOWN ON FACEBOOK DATA MINING

According to a news report in a major British publication, the European Commission may be planning to stop Facebook from data mining its information on users about their political beliefs, sexuality, religion and even their whereabouts and restrict transfer of such information to advertisers. This is what Facebook does not. A Directive is being prepared now for introduction into the EC this January to ban such practices unless users specifically allows it. Facebook could allow sanctions if it does not apply even though the data is stored in the United States. Such sanctions could include legal action or major fines.
