The New Mexico based Akal security Inc., one of the largest providers of sexurity services at federal courthouses agreed to pay $1.875,000 to resolve allegations that it failed to properly conduct firearms testing for some of its employees. Under its contract with Uncle Sam Akal must ensure its security officers pass an approved firearms qualification test and certify the results.
The government asserted that fraudulent certifications were submitted to it and that even though many of the guards were not certified, they continued to work. Jeffrey Newman represents whistle-blowers.
