DePuy ASR hip implant lawsuit update: implant designer says recall was for safety no low earnings

A designer of Johnson and Johnson subsidiary, DePuy’s ASR hip replacement system testified in Los Angeles Superior Court that the company initiated a DePuy ASR recall because of safety concerns. Engineer Graham Isaac head of hip replacement development for DePuy testified that a higher than expected failure rate of the device lead to the decision to recall 93,000 ASR devices worldwide in 2010. In the case on trial, Loren Kransky, 65 alleges that the DePuy ASR caused him metal poisoning, among other problems. There are more than 10,000 ASR pending lawsuits across the United States, among which about 7,000 are consolidated in the United States District Court in the Northern District of Ohio. Previous testimony from witnessed indicated that DePuy knew of the ASR’s faults several years before the recall. Jeffrey Newman represents whistleblowers.
