IF NEWS CORP HACKED PHONES OF 9/11 FAMILIES WILL FOX TV LOSE ITS LICENSE?

Fox TV’s parent company News of The World is caught in a widening scandal in which its reporters were caught hacking into cell phones of politicans and paying bribes to the police for information. Because the parent company is a U.S. company and its CEO Rupert Murdoch a U.S. citizen, it falls under the jurisdiction of a U.S. law called the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). The FCPA prohibits the payment of bribes abroad by any company with American operations. Convictions among News employees, including Mr. Murdoch’s son who apparently knew the hacking was going on, could endanger Fox TV’s license to broadcast issued by the Federal Communications Commission. This is particularly the case if the investigation confirms that 9/11 victim’s families phones were hacked.
