Whistleblower Catches various Cities in Ambulance Overcharges

A fraud investigator, Douglas Moore noticed that a city billed Medicare and Medicaid as more expensive life support calls, even though some of them were basic life support calls. Moore filed a whistleblower lawsuit on behalf of the federal and state governments against Dallas and various other cities and towns. Before filing the case, when he brought the matter to the city’s attention, he was told that because all the city’s ambulanced are equipped for advanced life support, the city had been billing every call at the higher rate for a long time. The whistleblower then checked out 11 other cities and towns and found out they were doing the same thing. Moore could get up to 30 percent of the otal $4.16 million paid by the cities to settle the lawsuit
